Principals Governing Use of the Manhattan Beach Badminton Club and Grounds

  1. CLUBHOUSE AND FACILITIES
    • All members sponsoring parties or get-togethers for or with guests for purposes other than visiting the Club or playing badminton must write a letter to the Chairman of the House Committee asking permission to use the Club and giving details as to date, number in party, etc. The member sponsor will be held responsible for replacing and cleaning all facilities used, Each member is responsible for any breakage or loss incurred by anyone in his family or by guests of his family. One third of the invitation list for private parties must be members. On Junior parties at least one sixth must be senior members, one sixth junior members. During such parties no other Regular Members are to be denied use of any part of the Club facilities.
    • Without exception the Club building is to be closed and locked at 12:00 midnight, except Saturdays, Sundays, and the night before holidays, when it is to be closed at 2:00 a.m. On special occasions, the closing time is to be determined by the Board of Directors.
    • The last member leaving the premises is responsible for turning out the lights and locking the building and gates.
    • Dogs and other pets of members and guests are not permitted on the premises.
    • Members will be furnished a duplicate keycard for $25.00 upon application to the Membership Chairperson of the Club.
    • The Club is available to members' children under eighteen years of age and their guests only when accompanied by an adult member. Such children must be properly advised concerning their responsibilities to the Club. Members whose children violate these rules will be subject to dismissal.
    • Due to costly equipment in the lounge, children shall not be permitted to play there unless under adult supervision. In no case are such children to manipulate such equipment as television, radio-phonograph, piano, amplifier, etc.
    • Children are not allowed to run and play around the courts while games are in progress.
    • Sign for all your guests in the guest registers provided (one near the badminton courts and another near the pool). If your guests play badminton sign for them in the Badminton guest book. This signals the treasurer to bill you $10.00. If they only swim, sign for them in the pool guest book and the fee is $3.00. The guest charges will be transferred to your account and billed the following month.
    • Your guests are strangers until you introduce them. Prospective members, in particular, must be introduced to the Board of Directors since they will not be voted on for acceptance by the Board until this is done. It is your responsibility to insure that introductions to Board members take place.
    • The Club is your responsibility - rearrange the furniture you move for your activities, clean up the dishes and kitchen after you use the facilities - also the cabana and other areas.
    • Work days are an obligation of all members. Club expenses can be controlled for the benefit of all by your active participation since contracting a great deal of such work as can be accomplished on work days will increase costs out of reason.
    • Use of the parking lot is reserved for Club activities. Overnight parking or temporary storage of vehicles or trailers is not allowed.
  2. BADMINTON COURTS
    • Badminton play will be governed by the American Badminton Association Rules.
    • Members representing the Club in matches, leagues or tournaments must wear appropriate attire.
    • Play bare-back, in sleeveless undershirts or bathing suits is not considered proper. All members, juniors and their guests must be properly attired when using the courts. No hard soled shoes may be worn by players on the courts.
    • Players waiting for a court when a number of players wish to play must await their proper turn. Two games may be played before vacating the courts.
    • Doubles games take precedence over singles play at all times except when there are vacant courts. Players to doubles players who arrive after the singles started. Players must complete a game on the same court on which play started.
    • Guests of Regular Members will be admitted anytime for badminton play except during tournaments or match play, however, only when accompanied by a member inviting them. Each member shall be limited to three playing guests at any one time. Spectator guests are freely welcome at all times.
    • A fee of $10 will be charged for each guest playing on the courts. All playing guests must sign the register before playing. The Treasurer will bill members the following month for all guests registered. This is your responsibility. See Rules Governing Use of Club House and Facilities (number 9). Visiting international playersare guests of the Board of Directors while using the Club facilities.
    • A fee for prospective members (a person who has been formally submitted to the Board of Directors for membership) will not be charged for use of the badminton courts.
    • Junior members must participate in the junior badminton instructions to be eligble for Club sponsorship to the Junior Nationals.
    • Adult members have preference over children for use of the courts at any time, except during scheduled court times for Junior Nationals. Parents shall be responsible for rigid enforcement of this rule.
  3. SWIMMING POOL
    • Guests of Club members may us the pool only when accompanied by the member inviting them.
    • A fee of $3.00 will be charged for each guest using the swimming pool. Spectator guests are freely welcome. All guests using the swimming pool must be registered by the sponsoring member in the guest book. The Treasurer will bill the members the following month from the guest book. This is your responsibility; be sure your guest are signed in. See Rules Governing Use of the Club House and Facilities (number 9).
    • Swimmers will refrain from entering the lounge and the courts in wet bathing suits. Access to the dressing rooms is through the pool level double doors.
    • Children under 18 must be accompanied by responsible adult members when using the swimming pool.
    • All persons must shower before using the swimming pool.
    • Adult members have preference over children for use of the swimming pool at any time. Parents shall be responsible for rigid enforcement of this rule. Ringing of the bell will be signal for children to vacate the pool.
  4. SAUNAS AND JACUZZI
    • Consult a physician prior to using the sauna and jacuzzi units if you have a history of high blood pressure, heart trouble or for any other health reason.
    • Consult physician prior to your children using said units, for saunas and jacuzzis may be injurious to the health of your children.
    • Parents shall be responsible for and must chaperon their children, under age 18, while they are using the sauna or jacuzzi.
    • No child under 10 is permitted in the jacuzzi.
    • All children under 18 must be accompanied by their parent or authorized member while in the sauna.
    • All children shall shower prior to using the sauna or jacuzzi.
    • All persons shall shower prior to using the sauna or jacuzzi.
    • A fee or $3.00 will be charged for each guest using the sauna or jacuzzi. All guests using the sauna or jacuzzi must be registered by the sponsoring member in the guest book. The Treasurer will bill the member in the guest book. The Treasurer will bill the members the following month from the guest book register.
